She has an excellent point. Damian is old enough to have attended college and has a strongly avowed interest in Satanism. Indeed, in strip #28, Zeke specifically mentions that Damian isn't a child - Zeke thinks of Damian as an adult, i.e., not a blank slate. If an adult has purportedly dedicated their life to something for an extended period of time and does not, in fact, know anything about the subject, there are only a few possibilities. The first and most obvious is that they are lying - Damian's dire straits make this unlikely. The second is that he is insane, stupid, or otherwise mentally challenged. The third is that he has recently suffered amnesia. Only far down this limited list do we find the "childlike purity of mind" option. Occam's razor dictates that we assume Damian is stupid - or, at very least, somehow cogitatively off-spec.
